January 28 is Data Privacy Day<\/strong>. Its purpose is to raise awareness and promote the importance of privacy and data protection in users. <\/p>\n\n

The day is recognized in Council of Europe countries and in the United States, Canada, and Israel, a country known for its focus on cybersecurity. <\/strong>Interestingly, this day has no prominence in countries where privacy for their citizens has very little value, while since the introduction of GDPR in 2018, this day has grown exponentially in terms of prominence and media attention.<\/p>\n\n

The European Privacy Regulation, which came into effect on May 25, 2018, establishes the<\/strong> rights<\/strong> that can be exercised by citizens:<\/p>\n\n

    1. Right to obtain information about what data are processed by the owner (right to information<\/strong>);<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Right to request and obtain in intelligible form data held by the owner (right of access<\/strong>);<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Right to obtainupdating or rectification<\/strong> of the data provided;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Right to obtain the deletion of data held by the owner;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. Exerciseopposition to<\/strong> processing in whole or in part;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    6. Right to withdraw consent at any time;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    7. Right to object to automated processing and not to be subjected to processing based solely on automated decisions including profiling:<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    8. Right to request and obtain transformation<\/strong> of data into anonymous form<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    9. Right to request and obtain the blocking or restriction<\/strong> of data processed in violation of the law and those whose storage is no longer necessary in relation to the purposes of processing;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    10. Right to data portability.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n

      In our daily lives, each of us can adopt practices and habits that help us choose what data to share and what to keep private.<\/p>\n\n
