What is meant by ERP or Management Software
ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is defined as a type of software system that helps organizations automate and manage core business processes to improve performance and workflows.
An ERP software-or management system-coordinates the flow of data among a company’s processes, simplifying operations in the company.
It can link a company’s financial, procurement flow, operations, sales, production and human resources areas into one platform.
What criteria to consider when evaluating a new ERP in the enterprise?
The criteria for choosing a new management software in a company are varied and change based on the type of company and its specific needs. We have come up with 10 key factors, however, that should always be evaluated:
- Type of installation: the choice can go toward a local ERP installation, in an IAAS server, or finally you can opt for a cloud-native enterprise management (learn more about possible installation types);
- Environment: Windows, Linux, IoS and possibly the possibility of using the management system on IOT;
- Category: the choice can be oriented toward a Software developed in the national territory, therefore more likely to respond in a timely manner to the needs of the Italian market, such as ARCA EVOLUTION or international, in the case of realities with broader needs, such as Dynamics 365 Business Central
- Type of billing: these are different, and even these can be declined based on the needs of companies: licenses can be one-time + support fee or fee-based licenses + support fee. As with the other points in this analysis, there is no right answer, but the one best suited to the specific context;
- Possibility of customization VS standard product: in some realities a standardized product is convenient, both in terms of installation time and price. But in others, a tailored customization path is necessary.
- Core-critical feature coverage for the enterprise;
- The presence of vertical products tailored to the industry in which the company operates;
- Quality of service and advice, which is essential in after-sales and day-to-day business support;
- Modernity of development systems;
- Economic factor, a management system can be a costly investment, and it is important to take this into account.
What does a management system have to do, anyway?
Again, much depends on the company.
Management software is usually modular. This allows some companies to use the accounting part, others to delegate to the ERP the document management part (quotes, orders, bills, invoices, …) others use the software for production, logistics and treasury associated with the ERP.
Each company is unique. That is why our advice for finding your ERP that respects the workflow in your company is to start with a consultation on internal processes so that you have a clear and comprehensive analysis of needs.
